    I only got the 1GB because I snagged a 4GB kit (2x2GB) from Crucial for $55. :)

My price came to $2,374.56 before tax/shipping. I got this deal through my company's rep because we order tons of equipment from Dell for our business. Dell.com listed this config as $3,298, so I got 28% off. Not as good as that 30% coupon that was floating around earlier, but I needed the laptop asap so I couldn't wait.

I really hope my screen is matte. I requested it.

    hey lptp-lvr,

do you happen to have a deltaE prior and after the calibration?
i've been on the phone today talking about calibration methods. the answer i got from a technician was quite a bummer. apparently rgb led screens cannot be calibrated (or exactly measured) by colorimeter (the huey actually is one). i've to get a spectralometer (think this is the english name), which is quite a bit more expensive than a good colorimeter (i would have gone for the dtp-94 sensor...).

anyhow, if you happen to know the deltaE please share them :)

RGB LED screens cannot be calibrated by Huey pro?! I have NEVER heard about that before and I really doubt it's true.. I've calibrated mine with huey pro and the result is quite impressive and my prints match the screen quite well.

    @ Thomas:
sorry for late responds - i will try install the program you linked to some time soon and post what info i get about my screen :)

I'm quite happy with my M4400.. took it on a trip this weekend and it worked well - no freshes - no BSOD - also i got the onboard Broadband card to work today.. VERY nice! - this machine seems much more stable than my previous E6500 - and faster too :)

actually it makes quite some sense what the tech told me.
the problem about the rgb-led's is apparently, that the color range is not specified, as well as the color temperatur. in that sense, a colorimeter cannot give a good result (well, probably still alot better than no calibration at all).

hmm.. well yes, that sounds like a reasonable explanation.. but still, i think that the most imporatant thing is that my printed work matches my screen - not that some teological numbers are 100 % correct :)

    THomas:
Installed everest - and i was not able to see any new informations, only the hardware ID i allready knew.

    Hiho,

here's my report of my telephone call with Dell sales rep from today:
He has two kind of configuration-software, one for the business-customers and one for the private ones. On the business-system, the RGB-LED LCD is decribed as TrueLife, on the private-system the same LCD is decribed as Antiglare. Both displays have the same id 230-10195 (he had no idea, where the 320-xxxx-numbers party mentioned in that thread come from). So he personally had a look on an M4400 with RGB-LED in his offices show-room and told me that the display is definitely not a glare one. It is somewhat reflecting anyway, but honestly which display doesn't? He made the following comparison for reflection degrees: Totally matte - 20%, RGB-LED - 20-25%, TrueLife - 80%! So it is not TrueLife for sure.
A technician also approved him that there is no other RGB-LED display out there! That is the only one. So no description seems 100% correct. It is not totally matte and not a glare one. He advised me to order the model with RGB-LED LCD and exchange it if it will not acceptable to me. The order will definitely state antiglare and then I will have the right to exchange the model when getting something else.

@janik_dk and all the other RGB-LED-display owners: Can you imagine to do some work with your M4400 outside with the sun shining? What do you think how glare the display is compared to real TrueLife displays? Thanks in advance.

Finally, I will most likely place the order tomorrow and hope the very best.
    I'll let you know.

    See you.

hmm well.. my two samsung X172 syncmasters are also matte.. so was my previous E6500 (WLED).. so this glossy display may seem more glossy to me because i am used to matte screen.. I really can't compare with any truelife displays as i've never seen one.
I had mine since thursday, but have almost only used it in in-door conditions.. with no problem, really a peasure to work with :) I will take it down for a outdoor trip tommorow (it's already dark here in Denmark now..) .. i'll let you know my observations.
