... just found a dead pixel. It appears to be an "always on" pixel... since I can see it when the screen is black.

I think Dell will replace this because their dead pixel policy for "always on" pixels is 1 or more.

Has anybody had Dell replace their screen for dead pixels? I have next day on site service... so I suspect it won't be much of a hassle, and I'll be able to verify that the new screen has no dead pixels! :)

    Wouldn't an external usb drive do? eg.[LG BE06LU11 External 6X BLU-RAY Disc Rewriter - BLACK/WHITE
    USB 2.0 - External ]

I personally can't stand "slow" notebook drives, and always use an external mains powered ones that are far less fussy with media, and more reliable in general.

    I agree....best notebook screen I've ever had,although I would prefer WSXGA. res ;)

I have the WXGA+ LED Display and it is definately matte! Here a pic of the M4400 next to the glossy XPS 1530M

The WXGA+ screen is really amazing. I like it even a bit more than the E2E-RGB-LED screen on my M6400, just because it's not glossy and seems to have a better contrast:

    Hi all,
I've got the M4400 since a few days. Great laptop, but the fan is really annoying me. Even when the system is idle, the fan starts to blow a few minutes after starting the laptop. On my previous laptop, a Latitude D620, the fan was only audible when the system was heavy loaded!

I downloaded 18fangui to monitor the temperatures: on idle, the CPU is about 30 degrees, the GPU 43, memory 45, Chipset 44 and harddisk 35. I'm not an expert, bu I should say that this is low enough. Is there a way to control the fan? I know 18fangui has controlling-options, but they don't work with my laptop: the system (bios?) takes over control from 18fangui every few seconds....

Further information: A09 bios installed, so it can't be the A06 issue mentioned earlier in this thread...

Thanks in advance for your reactions!
    Regard,
    Nelis

I can't confirm 5.1 transport at the moment. Past experience tells me it should be the case, I'll try and confirm later. I don't have all the speakers connected on my amp but it was picking up the digital audio link. I actually used HDMI to my 42" Panasonic Plasma and then Optical SPDIF to my Tuner/Amp. For all the Audio guys out there, the control panel lists an SPDIF device that is NOT the HDMI port. Dunno if the analog audio out port can be switched to co-ax SPDIF or an unused header on the motherboard. Audio was extremely clean, exactly what you would expect from a digital link.

Many are having fan issues with the A09 bios (although not all). Based on reading all of this thread, I would suggest bois A02 or A03... I don't have my M4400 yet, but I have been following all of the M4400 threads for about two months as I'll be ordering before the end of the year (for tax purposes). Good luck!

Thanks Intoxicate and mfr for those confirmations on the non-glossiness of the 1440x900 screen... Unfortunately I just messed with someones 15" studio that had the 1440x900 screen, and the resolution is just too lo:(.. Looks like I'll be going for the WUXGA on the m4400, I guess I'll avoid the RGB-LED Truelife and go cfl so I can still get a matte screen..
