I am quite satisfied with my spyder3pro, fits my needs well. How did you swing the 700+ off? I just joined the club and ordered an M4400 wish i got a sweet deal. Per Comp, in your profile it mentions that you have 8gb after market memory. what brand and spped did you end up going with?

As far as the discount - I got a referral to a small business rep from a friend in Dell federal sales... I guess he asked the guy to "hook me up". :D :D

As far as the memory - I'm going with the DDR2 667 (not the 800) and it's G.Skill. It's a LOT less expensive and the speed difference should be negligible. Here's the link from New Egg: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231210

Cool I was looking at that same memory also, for the moment I am going to stick with the 4gb I bought however I know I'm going to want to upgrade to 8 asap, especially with all the AE projects I am working on.

One question I forgot to ask prior to buying the laptop is what are everyones average battery times on the 6 cell and 9 cell batteries?

Same problem here...Bios A011 since today, but no improvement. I wonder why the fan does'nt keep running on a low level when the system is (almost) idle. My previous laptop (a Latitude) did this. Worked perfectly for me.

Katze...FWIW...I'm using Vista 64 Bus and even when gaming for 3 hours this things stays cool and quiet...just got it...BIOS A09 that came with it. XP? That's an old OS and I think driver problems...I'd give it up and move on to Vista...not trying to start something ok...my intentions are honorable :D :D

3.5max on the 6 cell, 4.5-5hrs max on the 9 cell surfing wifi

this is with all the power saving features enabled.

under "normal" usage, as in screen at medium brightness, not so aggressive power saving scheme, i get 3.5-4hrs on my 9 cell

As long as the 9 cell will cover a movie while on the plane... ;)

yea i dont think its a good idea to watch the movie at max brightness on the plane. the screens on these are friggin bright. would probably light up half the cabin LOL

im not sure how much battery life hit you'll get if ur watching a DVD, or high def decoding. its probably more stressful than surfing via wifi

Ok nice 3-5 hours isn't bad at all on power saving modes in my opinion. With all the hardware crammed into the M4400 i figured it might even be lower. Its just nice to know, that like you said when you are on a plane you can watch a movie or do some writing/simple tasks and the battery is going to make it and then once you arrive at you location you can open it up and get business done.

you wont have to use your laptop to watch movies if you fly singapore airlines or emirates lol....u get a nice bright large screen and 500 movies on demand.

you can also plug in a USB key and play your music off it!

but then again, there is a power adaptor at every seat, so you could use ur laptop anyway!
