    Do you have a quad core on the way for your M4600?

    I you have a quad core you can buy two of these kits 16GB (2 x 8GB) kits from crucial.com for 379.99 each. I run these in my m6500 but the configuration tool on crucial's website says they are guarenteed to work on the M6600 and since they are low voltage DIMM's (1.35v) they will probably work in the Ivy Bridge replacement for the m6600 (m6700?) as well.

    CT2KIT102464BF1339 - 16GB kit (8GBx2), 204-pin SODIMM , DDR3 PC3-10600 from Crucial.com

    Enjoy!

    From what I have read the m8900 is actually a 6970m with a different VBIOS. I think if you flashed the 8900's to the 6970 then it would work. Here is a link to the process for flashing the 6970 to 8900, but the reverse should work. I am considering doing it myself.

    [Softmod] AMD 6970m -> FirePro M8900

    Just an update. I flashed my 8900 to a 6970. The only issue is that the first screen with the Dell logo is messed up, but you can get into the BIOS fine. Seems to work. I will test with some games tonight.

    Long story short, I ended up getting the 32 GB of RAM. Now I was just wondering what kind of things/programs I can run with this amount.

    Also, why is only the slower 1333mhz speed available, and not the 1600mhz?

    Thanks for your ideas in advance.

    If you dont mind, is there a way you can check to see if the card has crossfire cable slot?

    THANK YOU!

    That would work really nice for running a group of virtual machines. I have 8 GB, and would like 16 GB just for this purpose. With 32 GB, I could easily run 6 VMs at 4 GB each - with 8 GB still remaining for the host.

    Other than that, the other thing that lots of memory is good for is database servers.

    right right. When running 6 VMs, do you think that the cpu will not the be bottleneck?

    At least, not with what I typically run. Might be an issue if you try to start them all up at once - but the i7 should work nicely. I only have a dual-core. I have 1-2 VMs that I'd like to leave running and have readily available - but even with 8 GB, RAM is still my limiting factor - not CPU.
