dont bother with the diagnostics...get on the phone and get a replacement. you dont want to get into the same situation as i got myself into. diagnostics all passed for my machine and the thing is still crashing.

It's always hard with forums like this but a large number of people seem to be having problems.

Are there any people out there NOT having any issues with the M6400? Or is every laptop having problems with gfx and sound?

    Regards,
    Simon

Thanks! This is a GREAT piece of knowledge to have! The label on the CD-ROM doesn't really make that clear.

Hey Torht- Thanks to the tip from SiliconAddict, I booted off my diags CD-ROM and ran the diagnostics. My Covet passes ALL the tests.

Can you provide the link to the article that shows the prescibed order of driver loading for the Covet? The link you provided gets redirected to a Vostro Laptop sales configiration web page.
I may be able to track down my "Unknown Device" by using this list you are referring to. I surely missed a driver.

smeckenna, here is the link. Just scroll a little down the page and open the installing drivers in the correct order topic.

OK, found it. I was hoping the list was a little more specific to the Covet, but it appears to be more general across all the Dell computers. It is still good to have, though. Thanks!

    Morphy-
I finally got around to giving the Everest a try, but after downloading and installing the latest Home version 2.20.405, no temp monitoring is available in the product, and the help file yielded the following goodie....
"14. Is it possible to detect temperatures, voltage values and fan status of Dell computers?
Dell computers use a proprietary sensor chip that is undocumented and so cannot be supported by EVEREST. "

And the RivaTuner appears to only monitor the NVIDIA GPU, not the Quad CPU. Since I'm not much of a gamer, I'm more interested in the CPU. Do you or anyone else know of simple CPU temp monitoring software out there?
    Bummed!

the thing is, some people may not even know yet. I only have problems now when the graphics card is under extreme load for period of time. i doubt most of the new owners here have had enough time to fully push their machines yet.

I've not discovered any problems at all yet, but I've only had my Covet less than a week. Since I'm not a gamer, is there anything I can run to really put the GPU through its paces? I did run the FutureMark benchmark software and I saw it flash a bunch of real time game graphics on the screen as it was running the tests for about 20 minutes, and everything seemed fine.
