Well it's faster, you don't have to wait for the drive to open, I didn't get any scratches from the M6400's slot in drive, yet ...

On the M6400 it's more like:

touch button > move move move > pull out :D

Here some pics to clear up what I meant:

You can see the colors als brighter and less dull. The comparison is a bit unfair, cause the M6400 screen is directly in front of a window, and the Dell 2007WFP is a bit off.

God those reflections look terrible! How can you work with those on your screen?

I'd take the Matte screen next to it anyday I think. Maybe the constrast isn't quite as high, but at least you can see what you're doing.

    Simon

You've aligned the 2007WFP so that it maximizes the reflection of the window, but aligned the Covet so it reflects the corner of the room. Also I'm a bit confused because my 2208wfp, next to the Covet, is brighter with both better colors and higher contrast, both deeper blacks and brighter whites. Low exposure photos taken in a dark room show that my Covet has brighter blacks than the 2208wfp, but your photo shows the 2007wfp has much brighter blacks than the Covet.

I took some pics while I was in the airport of what it looks like to use the Covet by a sunlit window when you can't aim it at a corner. (somehow the outlet in an airport always ends up being next to a window.)

Also you would be right that in your photo the E2E appears to have higher contrast, but if you go by where you have reflections, the matte screen wins even in your worst case scenario. The black point on your window reflection on the E2E is 75% white, while the black point on the matte screen next to it is 52% white by color sample of your photo. The darkest black is on the E2E, at 14% white, but you only get that on the portion of the screen you are able to get to not have a reflection in it. The darkest black on the matte screen, where it is not experiencing the specular highlight, is 18%. I'm guessing that were you using that system, you would not be at an angle like that, and you'd have that window reflecting more.

Keep in mind if you did NOT have that glass plate, your reflections would go away entirely, your bright and dark points would not change, and the specular highlights on the M6400 would double. You have almost no specular highlights showing on the M6400, so doubling them and eliminating the reflections would give you a much better image.

I've used all types of screens in all types of environments and I just filter out reflections unless they are insanely extreme (which the Covet is not). I can sit in my work area with overhead lights ablaze, reflections galore and it doesn't phase me. I have a large crystal lamp projecting right on my Covet as I work and it doesn't bother me one bit.

I guess it comes down to the user and their tolerances. A few past work mates would go into what I called, "Serious anal nerd rage'' over any change in their work environment or light projecting in their work, "caves." Me? I could code away, lights ablaze, and people walking by talking all day.

    FOCUS DANIEL-SAN!

But yeah, for those who can't stand reflections and can't filter them out, the glass is not your friend.

    Hi there,

Yep know what you mean.. I've worked with glossy screens before and you do get used to them. I do prefer matte though I think.

One other question.. Sounds like you use the m6400 for long periods of time. How are you finding the palm rest? As I haven't seen one I have no idea how bad it is but a lot of people are saying it's very sharp... almost painfully so. Is it really that bad just just another thing you adapt to?

I've heard a lot of people say the same thing about the new macbook pro's and having used them for a short time I did find it sharp, but not really THAT bad..

    Regards,
    Simon

I couldn't get both screens in the direct window light so I took two pics...
For me the E2E screen has better colors, but the 2007wfp has a better contrast, the worse contrast on the pics is due to the specular highlights of the matte.

Well I think we need some pics of the non E2E RGB-LED screen!! Anyone??

I definitely had to change my forearm positioning to mitigate the corners. They are definitely pointed and sharp with zero roundness to them. If I could think I one major knock on the Covet it is the corners. If you're a front typist and your forearms stay inside and parallel to the sides of your notebook (or if you have compatible shoulder width), it is no problem. but if you angle your arms with your upper forearm acting as a fulcrum point, then you will experience major discomfort IMHO.

Here are some pics of my Covet:
