    You can check at http://www.parts-people.com/index.php?action=category&id=142&subid=235

I've heard that 150W is sufficient and I've used an old Dell 130W and while I get a warning on the screen that it's not enough, the computer seems to work OK. Finding and ordering the 210W brick, either the 'slim' one or the fat one is a whole other task. Which you can probably figure out or maybe the link above has them. Last time I checked they didn't, but they deal in new and used parts and their stock constantly changes so put it on your list of places to look. Again, at this forum I've read that any 150W brick that connects is sufficient but I've not tried it myself. Sorry I can't offer more but it's something at least. That link is a good one to have if you use Dells if nothing else. Some (more than one) earlier posts asked where to get an orange case and I've steered them to The Parts People because they always seem to have them in stock. And I guess I'm the only person on earth that likes the big brick. Good foot warmer and a handy weapon should I get attacked at my computer.

UPDATE: Just checked at the above link and they have 230W bricks but they look as big as what you have. But they're new and $99, which is probably less than at Dell. They also have 150s for 69.95 if you decide to go that way.

Thanx Gulfstreamtec, I did visit the Parts People site you suggested and ended up ordering the 150w supply. Will advise later when it gets here and I've had a chance to work with it. Parts People also had some other esoteric parts for an older precision M60 and yet older Latitude C610 I had gunnysacked and should be able to revive for my kids now.

    Cheers!

ok, so has anyone found a solution to the current video drivers adding 20 seconds to the boot time in windows 7 rtm yet?

it's either have a quick boot with the standard vga driver, but no aero glass...
    or.....
add 20 seconds to the boot time and have full aero with the nvidia drivers
    hmmm..

The 150W supply work, but the system slows down during high load situations (I have the Quadro FX3700 and a Quad-Core Q9100).

The new 240W adapter (are used for the Alienware M17x and the M6400) is half as fat as the old one. It's larger but slimmer than the 150W adapter as well and you get no slowdowns.

Don't suppose anybody has had any luck replacing the slot load DVD drive with a tray one?

Only reason I ask is I have a Blu Ray drive in my Inspiron 1720 that I wouldn't mind moving over to the M6400.

Once I finish loading Win 7 (or fail to load as I did yesterday) I will check and see if the drives even use the same connector.

The M6400 has a 9.5 mm SATA drive bay, whereas the Inspiron 1720 is a 12.7 mm PATA. My former laptop was a Vostro 1700, which was the same deal - I ended up putting the blu-ray drive in a cheap enclosure. The UJ-232A is the only 9.5 mm BD-RE out there, if you don't mind the price..

My m6400 is running Win7 RTM now. Nice OS, only minimal problems having to do with oddball firefox setup and ramdisk. I did the upgrade it was a few hours of chugging but my machine has never worked better.

I am curious, could you comment a bit on how you use ramdisk and what exactly you use it for? Thanks
