Hey guys. Does anyone know if the "normal" M6400 has an LED option? On the purchase page it only lists:

    17" WXGA+ UltraSharp Display (1440x900) Resolution
17" WUXGA UltraSharp Display (1920x1200) Resolution

But on the specs page it lists those plus

17" WUXGA RGB LED Back-Lit Display (1920x1200) Resolution
17" WUXGA RGB LED Edge To Edge Back-Lit Display (1920x1200) Resolution

Now I know that the E2E is for the Covet, however the other item. I'm wondering if they are just out of stock or does the normal M6400 just not ship with an LED option? If not I'm going to be highly annoyed. Its the only option that I really need on this system.

perhaps in the future but for now, if you want RGB E2E LED screen, you have to get the covet.

only CCFL screens are available for the normal versions.
and i think Dell wants to sell more of their "premium" line before they start making those options available for the rest.

FYI - 4GB Memory Upgrade (2 x 2GB) at Newegg.com for $125. It was out of stock last week when I ordered my M6400, but it's back now.

    Here's the link

i am officially having problems with the graphics card. the 3700 cannot handle complex scenes for very long. i have had the graphics card driver error on me about 5 times in the past day while working and sometimes the screen goes really fuzzy and i have to restart. i am going to call dell in the morning but i thought everyone should know. i had a 3ds max file open and rhino file open and both were complex scenes, but my quadro 3500 on my desktop handles both files and more just fine with half the memory! i really hope this is not a problem i will just have to live with.

The driver for the fx 3700M does need an update as i ran into similar problems when benchmarking with Specviewperf10. In the mean time, just make sure all OpenGL capabilities are functioning with autodesk 3d max and their isnt any other driver out at the moment for m6400

-Can you install Geforce reference drivers on the Quadro 3700 and have them behave EXACTLY like a Geforce 8800GTX? I realize you may have to force them to install, but that's true of any notebook. Question is-can you do that and have it work fine, not overheat, run games correctly, etc.

-Which version of Vista does the Covet ship with if it doesn't say? I want 32-bit Vista for compatibility reasons, and would have to buy a copy separately if it doesn't ship with it.

-Any issues with watching movies/shows off an external USB Blu Ray drive? Video driver issues, etc.?

This thing is crazy expensive, and doesn't even ship with Blu Ray, but Dell seems to have abandoned their high end (and even mid range) consumer systems, and this is the only system with a good (?) GPU and LED backlight. Good at least assuming it really can function as a Geforce.

-Oh, and would I have issues purchasing through Small Business, especially will they honor the warranty even though I'm not a business? You can't order the Precisions through the Education store :(
