The new BIOS is a big improvement for me. The BIOS update partially resolved the performance and lockup problems I've been seeing when resuming from standby on Windows XP 64. No performance or lockup issues after a resume with this BIOS, but when I try a shutdown after the unit has resumed, it never shutdowns. It will shutdown fine if it has not resumed. A minor annoyance compared to before. Hopefully, A02 will address that or maybe I can find a driver issue/conflict.

But then the smaller 6-cell must not be flush with the sides. I'm wondering if this is another screw up.

Online it lists the battery slice for the M6400 and the smaller 6-cell battery. I know the battery slice does NOT exist for the M6400, and I'm beginning to think neither does the 6-cell battery. Ja you can buy both of these for your M6400 but don't expect them to work ...

Whereas the 12-cell battery for the M6400 is most likely a reality, but you can't buy it ...

Then there are the sort-after products like a modular battery bay and a high-def DVD and they apparently will never be available.

To summarize, for Dell's flagship notebook, they'll sell you two products that won't work with the M6400, they'll advise you to buy a product they don't have, and they'll tell you don't ever expect the two products you want.

Anybody ordered the notebook in Europe (Belgium).
I've placed my order on 8/10/2008, expected delivery would be 26/11/2008. It has been in production since 8/10/2008. I have not received an email yet, but I kinda gave up hoping to get it the 26th.
Maybe somebody else knows if they have a shortage of any parts?

Meanwhile, I've been reading these posts for a while now and I'm very glad to see everybody / most people are really happy with their new toy. Makes the waiting even harder for me.

    I've orderd the QX9300, 4Gig, 320 Sata raid 0, FX3700M

I was the one who posted regarding the 9100. However, I have had so many Dell lappys that I can't remember which it was: 8600, 9000, 9100??

Anyway, on that laptop it was not a matter of taste. Dozens of people were on the boards complaining about it. I wish I could find the threads of the time. Anyway, it really felt like typing on a trampoline. It doesn't sound like the Cove has keyboard issues anywhere near this level. I guess I'll find out for myself sometime in 2009! :)

Wow! fancy sending me Vista 64 if you aren't using it? :D I ordered my Covet with 32bit and don't want to cancel and reorder, and the Dell UK doesn't seem to be quite as nice and cuddly as Dell US in regard to sending out replacement disks!

They have got to be kidding me.
Just checked my online order status.
Expected date just moved from 26/11 to 13/01. I have orderd on 8/10. How the hell do they manage to take 3 months to assemble a notebook? Even when not all parts are in stock. I'll call them and ask them what they're missing now.

This really sucks! What was the configuration you ordered? I am hoping that something you ordered makes you stand out different. I ordered mine on Nov. 10th, and it still says Dec. 4th expected date.

I've orderd the QX9300, 4Gig, 320 Sata raid 0, FX3700M. The machine is on the same order as a Latitude E4300. There were also 2 monitors and 1 monitor stand on the order. I hope it's one of these last pieces which are out of stock.

I've called my rep at Dell a couple of times and as always, could not reach this guy. They promised me he would call me back later today to tell me what's exactly missing in their stock.

At our company, we have had good experiences with Dell but since we've got a new rep. A lot of things got messed up. The offer he had to make for example, it took him 5 offers until everything we asked the first time was really on the offer. Meanwhile, we also placed another order that he first forgot to place, then he has send us the wrong order number, then he accidently canceled the order....

I think we'll ask for another rep...

Anyway, what configuration did you order? I hope for you they deliver really fast
