As in the rest of the E-Series notebooks, I don't think there's a option for a modular bay battery :( The specs just say the modular bay can be used for an optical or an additional harddrive (great 3 hdds  )...

The largest, top of the line monitor is the 3008 WFP, a 30" monster.

I am following up on the issue in a thread I started called "M6400 Covet crashing in Maya ".

I'm actually hopping on the forum to ask a favor from M6400 owners. (They'll probably want to check this anyway...)

If you are running Windows Vista, especially 64, can you look in your windows events for this error?:

Right-click Computer. Click Manage. Pull down Event Viewer --> Windows Logs.
    Click on the Security section.
Look for icons that look like a padlock, saying "Audit Failure" and see if you have this message:

    Code:
Code integrity determined that the image hash of a file is not valid.
The file could be corrupt due to unauthorized modification or the invalid
hash could indicate a potential disk device error.

    File Name:	\Device\HarddiskVolume3\Windows\System32\drivers\[B]tcpip.sys[/B]
This has been appearing for me from the very first boot, and is happening immediately prior to every graphics driver crash. The reason I'm asking you guys is I'm using the same default Dell image you all are. So I bet you have this problem too, and if you don't, that means my problem is likely solved because all I need is the correct tcpip.sys.

    misterbk,
I have the same and more of these Audit Failures. I haven't installed too much on here because of a failed drive on delivery and I am upgrading to 320GB as opposed to 160GB.

I am running Vista Business x64 because of the incompatibility of Ultimate x64 and 2 Hd's w/o RAID.

I will be installing Maya 2008 as well as 3ds Max 2009 and others so I will know soon enough if it crashes or not. Do you have vsync enabled? I installed Gears of War and Dead Space. I have never seen any games look this good. If games work this well then the 3D should be even better. Vsync was enabled by default in the games and were slow. Cut it off and I can run these games at full res and full quality.

The machine runs fine so far. Then again still no 3d yet. Soon though . . .

Has anyone noted the Shared Memory that the 3700 uses? Looks like 1792MB for me. This gives the video 2816MB total. This may be because of Vista. This is my first Vista system. 2 games I have installed run flawlessly at high FPS and full res and quality. No wonder! I have a Covet w 8GB mem.

Another note is I asked about the FCM slot. It appears it (Turbo Memory) will available at a later date for this machine. :)

FYI - To those who also had their Covet ship date delayed.

Once mine had been officially pushed back 10 days, I emailed support to inform them that in the time since ordering the Covet, the configured price had dropped by $500, so I would like a discount to reflect that change or an upgrade to a QX9300 (from a T9600 = $525) to compensate for the new ship date.

This morning I followed up that email with a call to see what their decision was. They "found" a battery and were shipping it Monday (instead of Dec. 5th, as I had been informed the day prior).

Food for thought for those also being Dell-ayed.

Not enough space in the modular bay for the M6400 batteries.

No resolution yet on why Vista Ultimate 64-bit with no RAID does NOT allow 2HD configuration. It appears, to the rep, that this is not an online error but will get back to me with a definite answer.

Has anyone bought M6400 Vista Ultimate 64-bit with no RAID and 2HD?
