Thanks. I placed order yesterday with 1HD. Will wait and see how things work out and upgrade later.

Appreciated. Have made note of "If you rebuild, make sure you copy off the C:/DRIVERS folder from the original DELL install."

That's complete nonsense, of course. You can configure Vista with as many hard drives as you like (well, within reason anyway; you may run into trouble if you wish to have more drives than the alphabet has letters :D )

Yep. You can buy and install a second hard drive yourself afterwards.

P.S.: Or you could buy it in a 2HD RAID config, and then reconfigure the system yourself.

Has anyone on here bought an M6400 with only one drive and been able to fit a second themselves? I.e. can someone definitively (sp?) tell us if they do come with the caddy & interposer as per the service manual.

This is true. I have a 64bit Vista machine with 1 raid 5 array, and 5 non raid disks. Mixing SATA and IDE. No problems at all.

Oh, by the way, my rep told me that my Covet is on its way to the US, even though my status on Dell's web page is still listed as "In Production". Go figure... In any case, looks like I'll have the machine early next week :D

All drivers came with the computer, actually, I got drivers for XP32, XP64, Vista32 and Vista64 in the drivers CD.
I have Autocad, Rhino, Autoship and Alibre 32bit running perfectly, using full 8 GB of memory.
Have no problems with any other software installed.;)

How is the build quality of the M6400 compared with the M4400, I do not like the finish of the 4400 palm rest, the paint quality is not very good, do you know if the M6400 is a different finish, different material or paint ?, thanks

I've read some reviews that says M6400 has Brushed Aluminum Frame, that means the top cover (behind the LCD) and the bottom that are Silver Color, the build material is actually aluminum like the MacBook Pro's, or they are just painted silver color ?, what material is the palm rest plastic ?, thanks
