Does anyone know how to verify that your Vostro 1220 really does have and "LED" (as opposed to "LCD") display?
I've looked in Device manager\Monitors and it just says "Generic PnP Monitor".

    Thanks
    Nigel

you're confused. LED is a type of lighting technology, so you can have a LED lit LCD panel, or a CCFL lit one.

Actually I did know that but didn't want to confuse people since most people just refer to them as either "LCD" or "LED" displays.
So to rephrase my question in a technically correct way:
Does anyone know how to verify wether your display is CCFL or LED "backlit" ;)

Mine is an LCD....I'll look up the particulars and post it here....I've had both...If you have the CCFL, the viewing angles will be narrower than the LED....however, the CCFL true life looks a little more 'vibrant' (slightly nicer IMO)....

I bought mine in August and I'm in Canada as well.

Mine cost around $600 and came with a P8600, 3GB RAM and a 7200RPM 250GB hard drive. I don't know if it'll get cheaper, but I don't think I would have paid close to a grand for it.

As for the rigidity of the lid, I would have to agree that it does have some flex to it. The keyboard is also quite mushy, especially on the left side.

did you get yours from the outlet? You really have to watch Dells...I just bought an m6500 with 1220.00 off sale that only lasted two days...it's a miracle I even found out about it....

No, it was brand new. I don't think Dell Canada even has an outlet.

Well, right now, it is almost 1 CAD = 1 USD if you go to any banks to exchange money. So the fact that the number is in CAD doesn't really make a lot of differences.
