hey guys i got my vostro last friday and used it the whole week end .. its a sweet little machine .. anyways lemme review it:

-the machine over all seems solid except for the dvd drive which moves inside soo much .. like its not secure thats because there is only one screw securing it
-the media buttons or panel thing that is right below the screen is really annoying and rarely works on my machine idk y i might have to call them
-the other bad thing is the sound quality as mentioned before is really bad.
-the fan is just terrible it never turns off ,, its not noticeable when ur in a noisy area but when ur alone in ur room it can get annoying.

these were the things i dont like about the machine other than that . i love it .. its soo small and powerful !!!

that multimedia bar above the keyboard has a very thin layer of plastic you need to peel off....might help the sensitivity....my lower volume works great, but increase volume I have to hit it more than once.

but yeah, great 12 inch notebook overall

Keys rubbing on screen & leaving marks

Does anyone else have this problem?
The 6 keys G, H, J, K, L, ; are lightly rubbing on the screen when closed and leaving marks - not complete squares, mostly broken vertical lines on each side of the squares and around the corners.

I've only had the 1220 for 2 weeks. The 1st week I cleaned the marks off however they've appeared again and I'm concerned that over time they will leave permanent scratches (BTW screen is LED backlight).

It only travels to work and back (about 20mins each way) in a padded laptop backback so I hate to see what would happen if I took it bushwalking with me for hours like I did with my old trusty Inspiron 700m.

    Anyone else encountered this?
If not then do you think this would this be something I should contact Dell support about?
I'm reluctant as I've had a so called "Dell technician" service my Inspiron 700m previously and he obviously hadn't read the service manual ...if I hadn't stopped him & showed him how to disassemble it correctly he would have broken it. As it was he broke the replacement part immediately after fitting it as once again he didn't know what he was doing. I then had to get another technician to come out and do the same repair again at a latter date

Yeah I get some of those key marks on the screen occasionally. They wipe off easy though. Happens most laptops I have had though.

Guys, I wonder how the m11x will stack up against the 1220. On one hand much better GPU, but on the other the proc is not as powerful. Debating if I should flog the 1220 to buy one but I do work with VMs and video editing so am worried the M11x would trail the 1220 in this regard (I have the p8600).

I work from a virtual machine on my 1220, so I hear ya on that one...good question....idk....probably stay with the CPU....this thing runs my strategy games anyway in my case....I'll look at that one and see...

edit: just looked at it...looks cool, but the p8600 will stomp all over that cpu I think...I'd have to stay with the Vostro...that's what I would do. Those vm's are pretty cpu intensive.
