Yes VGA cable can handle full HD. But, in order to do it, it depends not only on the computer's graphics card, but also on what resolutions your tv can handle via its vga port. Not all HDTV's can display full HD through their "computer port" (vga). Also, be advised that over on the AVS forum there are a number of threads where knowledgeable folks argue at length over the quality of the picture when using VGA to display 1080p on you tv (if it can do it). Seems some HDTV's do a better job than others.

Which processor and HDD configuration would make the Vostro 1220 run the coolest and the quietest?

Does the celeron run cooler than the P series?

So I'm considering this laptop. Seems like the fan can be extremely loud on semi-normal use. What about any heating issues? Using a 2.4Ghz (P8600) or 2.5 GHz (P8700) does the keyboard or left pad area get hot while using this laptop?

I have the T9550 processor and the laptop does not get uncomfortably warm. The only place is maybe the touchpad when it is cold going to the warm touchpad, I find it a "tingly".

I think I'll be going with a P8xxx chip for the 1220 and a 250GB HD. I usually look at the TDP of the processor on intel (http://ark.intel.com/Compare.aspx?ids=37006,35568,) which is a good indication of the the amt of heat it will give off. Some of the P9xxx chips give off 35W compared to the P8xxx chips give off 25W which is consideablly less (~50% more).

I'd like to know the loudness of the fan when it needs to some on.
