    RE Fan Loudness
FYI I have the P8600 and haven't noticed any fan noise to speak of.
Re heat - mild warmth on each side of touchpad but again nothing to be concerned about.

I would agree with nigeltec. I used mine extensively on a recent trip and noise was not a problem. I have a T6670.

I have p8600....noise is not an issue either. no major heat issueds either....sometime the left palm gets slightly warm if I spend 3 hours gaming, but it's not enough to even consider an issue.

You say the touchpad is small. Do you mind giving me the dimensions? My current laptop, which is pretty old has a touchpad of size 3" x 1 5/8" and might be about 1/8" sunken from the top of the wrist area. So I'm used to that size. Is touchpad flush with the wrist area of the laptop or is it sunken down a little?

Mine travels with a MS notebook USB cooler...I used it without, and the fan is slightly noticeable but not a problem. The cooler really keeps it quiet.

I have a Dell Vostro 1220 with the following hardware specs: Windows 7 ultimate edition 32 bit, Encrypted hard drive, Processor: T9550 2.66 ghz, 4 gb ram and a 4 cell battery = 32 watt hour.
I'm getting about 1 hour 30 minutes out of the battery. I conducted some tests and ran streaming netflix video (via wifi) and with all the timers off the machine ran for 1 hour 17 minutes until it hibernated. I then conducted another test looping a video file (the sample windows 7 video file) with all radios turned off. It ran for 1 hour 35 minutes.
What kind of times are you getting out of your 4 cell battery. If someone could conduct a similar test I would be really grateful. Thanks in advance to the community.
    Regards Jim

my v1220 lasts 5 to 6 hours easily without any special tweaking.

    1.5 hours seems too short.

By the way, can anybody recommend a docking station for V1220?

RE: battery life on vostro 1220 with 4 cell battery:
Do you have the 3 watt hour 4 cell battery ? It seems like a very big disparity. What's your processor speed ? My processor is pretty fast but it does have intel speed step so it should slow down when it does not need the full speed.
    Thanks again . Regards Jim

Fellow V1220 owners, how many of you are still on Windows XP? Do you plan to upgrade to Windows 7?

I still have Windows XP Pro on my mine, it is a Windows Vista Business downgrade, but I also have a Windows 7 upgrade kit from Dell.

So far, the XP seems to be working just fine, expect for a certain audio problem. I am wondering if I should sit down and spend some time doing the upgrade to Windows 7. Is it worth it?
