Windows 7 on my Vostro 1220 is outstanding. I find it to be a more pleasant experience than Vista or XP due to having the XP compatibility mode and that it seems somewhat zippier than XP.

    Yes...Win7 32 bit and openSUSE 11.2 KDE4.4

I would...Win7 is the best thing to happen to Windows IMO. :)

    hi,
i ordered a v1220 and an m11x a while ago. seems like the 1220 will get here first (finally!!) so here is my question:

-how does the 1220 handle 1080p mkv playback?
-is there sound output with the HDMI port?
-some bugs i should know about or some updates/bugfixes i need to have?

1080p mkv playback is smooth as silk. No problem at all. the machine is a little beast.

What HDMI port? Is there a HDMI port on V1220?

Just make sure you have the latest bios, what OS are you ordering?

oh ... well.. was sure the sales rep mentioned HDMI output o_O grr
well i wanted to connect it to my full hd plasma once in a while.
Is that possible via VGA in fullHD or is there some kind of limit to the output (my netbooks max resolution via VGA is 1024x768)?

Ordered the Win7 home premium btw and thanks for enlightening me ;)

You should be able to output FullHD, at least I am able to with mine. But you may need to tweak some of the settings for it to work.

How exactly are you going to connect your HDMI tv to vostro without a HDMI port? there is no dvi and vga is just analogue.

Translation: Penny pinching dell didn't add hdmi or even dvi leaving the vostro squarely on the wrong side of the millennium.

Trust me, the best thing to do would be to return it ASAP, its just not worth it

VGA totally support 1080P FULL HD output, it works very well on my TV without any special tweaking.. Make sure your TV has a VGA connection. Most HDTVs on the market do except for Philips.

Pantha, do you own a Vostro 1220? If not, what are you doing on the owner's thread telling someone to return it?
