I use it primarily as a linux machine....linux has a dialog to turn it off...it interferes with the way I type :)

Maybe there is a setting that delays the use of the touchpad when you use the keyboard. ie: so you don't accidentally click something while your hands are on the keyboard. Maybe search for a setting somewhere like this.

Thanks, I will look into this. I really don't want to call Dell tech support. I did the lazy way and e-mailed them and they told me to update the touchpad driver (already did that, no help). I really love this machine except for this issue.

I home row, two hand type properly and the touch pad causes errors without a delay. Are you sure this is even a problem?

@scramer, try Dell Chat support instead of calling if it is available to you. I have found it to be more useful and easier to use plus you get a written record of all your chats.

Example, filling out a form, I finish one line and want to go to the next. when I try to move the cursor with the mouse / touchpad the cursor is "frozen" for many seconds. I cannot move the cursor to the next line, click on another tab if I have several internet pages open, I cannot do anything. Another example, I just typed this paragraph, saw a typo on the first line, moved my cursor by the touchpad to the place to fix, then could not move the cursor to the end of the paragraph to type this last sentence. I CAN use the keyboard, ie if I had tabbed on the form, hit enter (instead of trying to move the cursor to the enter to click on it), etc. Hopefully this is making sense.

    Yes, this is a problem.

I probably need a session where someone can log into my computer to see what I am talking about. Keyboard works fine, using a mouse works fine, it is just when I go to use the touchpad the cursor will freeze for a few seconds before I can do anything.

Thanks, I will start with that.

I see...for me, that touchpad causes typo's left and right....I can't deal with it...but Dell Chat support would be worth a try...

Yes there's definitely an issue with the Touchpad freezing... I get it too.
theZoid, are you saying that under Linux you do NOT have any touchpad freezing problems? If so then it must be a Windows driver problem.
I've reduced the "Touchcheck" slider to min (setting to ignore accidental touches when typing) which has helped.
    Here are my settings:
    Windows: Windows 7 Prof 32 bit V6.1 (Build 7600)
    Driver: DellTouchpad, Version:7.2.101.221, Date:5-22-2009
    Touchpad settings:
    Speed: ~80%
    Sensitivity: 0%
Tap to click: ON, Draglock: ON
    Tapping speed: 100%
    Touchcheck: ON, 0%

BTW how do you insert an image in a post?
    - I had a pic of my settings but when I click the image icon I get prompted for a URL.
