@Weegie....no, the front of the notebook is beveled where the hands go so it doesn't dig in (you can see that in the photo)....I did read this about the 13 incher though...true?

Yes, I guess a proper typing style wouldn't have a problem, I just realised I could zoom the pic...duh, the 1310 was almost sharp enough on the corner's to slash your wrist's, but the 1220 doesn't look any worse on the corner's than the M4400.

iconic "Mad Magazine" character, first published 1952, make's a change from all the cartoonized self portrait avatar's

Best part of all though was Spy vs Spy!
I only mention this cause I was a Naval Intelligence Officer for 20 years (oh oh I can hear the jokes coming already).

Hope all of you 1220 users have a great holiday season!

Now that I've had it for little over a week, here's my first impressions:

    Pros
    - Fast (with a P8700 cpu and a 7200 RPM hard drive). A lot faster than my dual core Acer Laptop with AMD CPU.
    - Good battery life. Got over 5 hours with WLAN on. Mostly light work, but watched some youtube clips in the last hour.
    - Bright easy to read screen. (Went with the non truelife WLED screen. I don't like the reflections you get from those clear screens).
    - Light and small.

    Cons
    - Loud fan when doing cpu-heavy stuff like compiling things. Stays cool though.
    - Touchpad is too small (will need to bring mouse).

A good summary! it is a little monster, in a good way of course.

However, now the V13 is out, I wonder if I should have waited.

That V13 looks good, but it's pretty weakly powered...I had written off all those low voltage units, ergo ordered the Vostro 1220....I don't think that unit would run my Strat games.....?

    However, it looks GREAT...

    Ok, first game report:

    Rome:Total War

System: Vostro 1220 (see specs below)

    Grade: A+

Report: Game ran perfectly at all settings, including native resolution of 1280X800. Game performed best at medium-high settings but can run the game satisfactorily at nearly maxed settings. Colors are sharp and there is absolutely no system stutter in rendering images, even in large battles.
