considering the power of the machine with small footprint, this is really great!

Hey how is the screen? How long is your battery life? did you tweak the machine for better battery life? How is the build quality?

Just a heads up for anyone looking for a nice protective case for the Vostro 1220:

Samsonite makes a "Netbook" case for laptops up to 10.2" screens - yet it fits the 1220 like a glove. There is room for a CD or two, some papers, and that's it - the charger will have to ride in your luggage. However, this is how I tend to travel, so this case is really handy for the frequent traveler. It also works to protect your 1220 if you keep it in, say, a backpack.

thanks for sharing, reloader. I am going to check it out next time I am in the mall. I think Vostro 1220 is perfect as a capable travel campanion.

Thanks for the link! Looks interesting....

OK...the 'Speaker' is the only weak point in this laptop....I mean, there is only one speaker on the bottom. For movies, I plug in a pair of portable speakers or use Apple Earbuds that I'm using right now. I never use laptop external speakers so it doesn't bother me...except for system sounds, youtube dialogue, those things where it doesn't matter. The laptop has a good soundcard, and sounds great through externals or earphones so it's just personal preference. But for me, it's not even a consideration really.

EDIT: BattCursor from your link is pretty slick. Just what I was looking for, i.e. to automatically change power profiles based on battery state. :)

Yup those programs are pretty slick and awesome, so its IDT audio right? Ipod earphones suck, ipods are better bad too, you want to hear real audio then get a pair of klipsch earphones and either Sony or pioneer headphones.
