i have a doubt too, because some bios Tools need command to make a RAW backup.
BUT as we know all here, Google is our best friend :O)

    Read this :

    http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/desktop/f/3514/t/19643314

This is a good start to probably find a solution.

Thanks, I made another thread. Won't bother you for now with the topic, but backup was made with AFUWINGUI. I don't know if firmware ID is relevant in this case or if the chip is nearly identical the original and supports the recovery flash.

I've been reading this threat and I 'll wonder if anyone could help me.

I'll love this laptop for years now and I've recently upgraded the RAM, SSD, bigger battery, cleaned the unit and used new termal paste due to overheating.

I wonder if after using this modded bios will my board recognize a cpu i7 840QM? I 've changed my cpu (i5-430M during cleaning my laptop but it was stuck in non booting and showing a black screen and number 9 in de keybord display. My current bios is a very old version A01 and my motherboard is 07VWR8 with the GT 330M. All updates WIN 10 works fine. Did a clean installation. No problems at all, using WIN 10 version 1703 (15063.608). I've changed my CPU back and than it works again.

    Thanks in advance.

Ouch...... Your bios is too OLD

The latest bios containing CPU microcode update is version A07, according to DeLL changelog.
But i'm curious, i checked the cpu microcode table and there's some difference between A07 and A12, see here :

    A07
    A07cputable.jpg

    A12
    A12cputable.jpg

Apparently, DeLL just remove an old revision for the 0655 CPU ID

The most important for you is to know if it's OK... :p
As you can see, the CPU ID 06E5 is PRESENT, and this is the good one for i7-840QM :D

Don't be upset about microcode revision: when Windows start, it load the latest microcode
available, to replace the one injected by the bios.

if you have some prob, there's a way to replace the old one in the bios.

The second important thing, is CPU TDP :

I know some Vostro 3700 was sold with i7-720QM, it's a good fact, because TDP is identical with
the i7-840QM : 45 Watt. No problem, you just need to know, your laptop will be a bit more Noisy
than before (more TDP = More heat)

it's now time to flash the A12 bios , and make a try ! :)
Please read carefully the thread again before.

PS : You don't have ANY problem with GT330M video driver ??? i don't make any try with the latest redstone, but if DeLL/nVidia provide to Microsoft the necessary updated .cab to obtain a working 330M
    BRAVO to DeLL !

    Thanks for your reply. [IMG]
I've a Nvidia driver 21.21.13.4201 date 14-11-2016. It is certificated by Microsoft Windows Hardware Compatibility Publisher. I'll can only use this GPU. I have no option to select the Intell HD 3000 video driver. I´ll use the CPU intell drivers from the Intell. Information:

    Device ACPI\GenuineIntel_-_Intel64_Family_6_Model_37_-_Intel(R)_Core(TM)_i5_CPU_______M_430__@_2.27GHz\_1 was migrated.
    Last Device Instance Id: ACPI\GenuineIntel_-_Intel64_Family_6_Model_37_-_Intel(R)_Core(TM)_i5_CPU_______M_430__@_2.27GHz\_1

This set up is with the old bios A0. I have no issues. I have also dual Wifi.(2,4 en 5 GHz). Laptop stays cool after cleaning and the fan is very silent, except when running heavy application. Hope it helps others.

    Hi.

You can't choose because the system decide for you when it use the intel or nvidia gpu.

Now , if you want to put your i7, no choice, you need to upgrade the bios.

The problem with the non-modded One, is the particular driver needed to work Under Win10 (but Dell don't care about it)
if you put the nVidia latest revision for Win10 with the vostro 3700 = Non working.

This is why the modded bios A12 is VERY useful to disable hybrid archtecture: You can install the LATEST nvidia driver Under Win10.

The final choice depend of your need.

For information this is the changelog of bios release :

    A12
    - Removed "resume bypass" item in BIOS setup menu.
    - Enhanced Security for BIOS bypass function

    A10
    1.Update Intel VBIOS to V2056
    2.Update Intel ME version 6.1.0.1052
    3.Update MRC to V1.4 support i3 CPU.
    4.Enhance SSD Security function.

    A09
1.Update PXE ROM for Novell Zenwork connection
2.Correct L2 Cache info at BIOS SETUP when Celeron CPU installed

    A08
Update BIOS relative table for OS

    A07
1.Update bios microcode for new Intel CPU i3/i5/i7
2.Fixed Intel vbios fix SG uninstall black screen issue
    3.Support INT2 (Pin-11) FFS

    A05
    1. Boot order can now be changed
    2. Admin Password and BIOS Setup Lock can now be cleared by Master Password
    3. Intel UMA LCD brightness unstable issue fixed
    4. Fn+F6 (TouchPad enable/disable) now works under Windows XP

    A04
    1. Workaround to keep brightness under Windows XP.
    2. Fixed some wording error in BIOS Setup.
    3. Update Intel/ Nvidia VBIOS
    4. Update Intel ME code
    5. Implement DELL consumer IPCC Spec for Power/battery life saving

For your use, if you have no issue, don't touch anything.

    Hello.

Many thanks for your helpfull replies. I am going on Holidays for a week and will try your recommondations when I am back. I'll hope the modded bios will do the trick and will work with the latrst fall creator Windows upgrade I want to install. Hopefully I don't have to reinstall Windows 10, because the reactions are mostely based on Windows 7 upgrading to Win 10 with the modder bios. I'll report the results as soon I have finishes it. Thanks again.
