I get this error in event log every time I boot W7:

"The following boot-start or system-start driver(s) failed to load:
    PBADRV"

Thing is that I also get this error when the problem (applications don't respond after bootup) does NOT occur. So I don't really know if it's related.

Another error that seems to occur quite often:

"The rimmptsk service failed to start due to the following error:
The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it."

Update: Had the problem again right now. Only other thing I noticed, a warning:
"Custom dynamic link libraries are being loaded for every application. The system administrator should review the list of libraries to ensure they are related to trusted applications."

Any ideas how to get rid of these errors and warnings?

PBADRV is a Dell driver... I don't know which one, thus. I have the PBADRV64.sys on my system. I can't figure out it comes from which driver. The signature and copyright is from Dell. Some investigation needs to be done.

rimmptsk is RICOH drivers. Did you install RICOH drivers or are you using Windows 7 default drivers?

Do you have Windows 7 32 or 64-bit?
In device manager do you have a device that has a exclamation mark?

So I don't know how to check event logs, but I did notice a few things about the freezing after resuming windows:

For me, I could open any browser (or any program, really) after booting and it would function fine until I tried to type anything. I could open FF, open my bookmarks and click links all I want, but as soon as I tried to type into the address bar or type a password in, the program would hang for a couple minutes

This happens for me after a fresh boot, after resuming from sleep, or resuming from hibernate. I haven't used hybrid sleep but I'd assume its the same.

Oddly enough, I poked around disabling different services and processes, and found that DCPSysMgr.exe might be the culprit. If I kill only that process with task manager, I can sleep and hibernate without seeing the problem again. I've taken this program out of my startup folder and haven't run into the problem again yet. But now I don't get the blue volume meter when I adjust volume. =(

I'm running Windows 7 64-bit 7100, and the version of DCP System manager that I have is 1.2.01000 A11 from 5/1/09. I'm actually on a Latitude E4300, not a E6400, but I figure its probably the same thing.

AHA! I see why I don't have it. Some time ago, I posted 2 early versions (on another thread) of the Dell ControlPoint software (also, the best, once that don't exists form full screen your application/game and doesn't steel focus). And that is what I used from now on, even under Win7. I say, if you don't care about Network management and security management feature of Dell Control Point, then go back with the early versions.

Here you go: (for 64-bit Vista and Win7 (although not official))

Thanks for the link to the old DCP. It's a shame Dell doesn't keep a back catalog of their software, seeing as how newer isn't always better. Hopefully they'll fix this issue for good before Windows 7 is released.

I'm running DCP A07 with no problems so far. With this issue solved, and my new SSD installed, I officially have nothing left to complain about on my laptop!

If you have the new drivers disc from Dell with your E6400, the earlier versions of DCP are on that disc. Also, Dell has a link on the driver's page for the older versions.

I don't have the PBADRV64.sys on my system. Furthermore, I didn't install the RICOH drivers, I use the W7 default ones. I have W7 64-bit. And no, everything looks fine in the device manager.

I will try the old Control Point and report if the problem went away.

Hello, What's about battery in win7?

Is win7 worse than vista in battery duration?

    Thanks

We can't say until all official drivers and possibly BIOS are released.
On my system I have 2 hours less (with my 9-cell), but I do lack Win7 drivers.
But technically speaking, you should gain few minutes of battery life or be at the same level of Vista. As Win7 has a lot of optimization that was done over Vista.
