Have to take back my post about finding lockups solution :(. After 8 days my M4400 has frozen again, and did it twice in about hour. I'm sending it back to Dell.

First time I was watching movie and second reading my gmail. The thing is those freezes have no pattern. Sometimes it freezes under load and sometimes when laptop is idle. I've check almost everything - there is no overheating, no hardware errors (besides Intel Matrix driver which sometimes throws timeout error to the eventlog - but this is know issue). Was trying to get memory dump but can't because even keyboard driver is freezing and does not respond to any keystrokes. I guess it is some low level problem with motherboard. Bump.

I agree, it sounds like a hardware problem. I have yet to have a system crash or freeze with this laptop. I have had it since october.
    Good luck!

Just to chime in I had a few freezes in the beginning when I received my computer. It only happened twice and right on the first week I had to do a full windows re-install and I havent had any freezes since that. I have no idea what the problem was with the freezing but no hardware changes were made.

Sounds like we've been invaded by Hewlett Packard subjugators :D :D I wish I could help....I've never had any such problems...only freaggin Vista which is normal. That almost sounds like a flakey ram chip or something.

Quick update on my M4400. Got contacted by IT department from my company that they got the laptop back from Dell and what they replaced was the processor (!?). Can't make any tests as I'm on TDY now, but I should get that laptop back in next week.

BTW I have T9400 in my laptop.

Help Help Help. 1st m4400 arrived in December. Immedite need to do clean reinstall (dell sends new hardrive.) 8 new clean installs later (countless hours), dell sends new batteries, mobo and memory replacements. Still locking up. Dell takes old one back and builds new onw. Initially new one (2/19) seemed much more stable. Currently it is experiencing same lockup issues. As per dell, no services other than MS, Intel and nVidea are running. I'm still experiencing lock ups ever hour or so, particularly around auto sleep / hibernation. Having a 4k machine that is little more than a paperweight is extremely frustrating. Anyone else with quad processor, vista 64 and 8gb? Any solutions out there This is just completely wacked.
