A06: fan is off right now, weird that its running at 100% for you...

& I have the T9400 @ 35W TDP. The T9600 is also 35W TDP, not sure why yours would run hotter. But generally faster = hotter.

that's the case with a lot of people...but only if it needs to run first. Say after a gaming session it won't go down...temp reads stay the same for a couple of minutes too, 4 min later they suddenly drop by 20degrees or so. Max temps reached are round 105...please test

btw...describeb in the downclocking thread (same issue) http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=308562&page=1

I dont think I have time today, I have to finish a lot of work using the old M4400, pack it up and send it out before I can even mess with this one in depth. I will test as soon as the opportunity rises (this Friday) however, promise.

*edit: About the lock-up issue: Since my old M4400 actually lived 5 days straight before it locked up again recently, I can't tell if this new M4400 is out of the woods with the issue unless it lasts without a lockup for 10 days (random number, pressure is on). Puttin this baby to the test, will leave it on all day/night for the next 9 days to see if lockups occur.

I-RAM, did you try hardware manager to check driver versions? Although BIOS is the main thing anyway, and if you didn't check drivers earlier checking it now won't tell us if there is any difference ;) Good luck with your work. I'm going to sleep, it's over midnight here...

Update: New system from Dell has been running 3-4 days absolutely no sign of locking up anywhere. Temperatures are just as good as the old ones during idle. We'll have to see during gaming.

Just wanted to add to this thread. I bought a refurbished E6500 that has been locking up. Seems like no matter what I do, the system WILL lock up given enough time. One time I even turned the computer, logged in, and let it sit there. Still locked up. It seems to happen within the first 30 minutes... I haven't used it very extensively yet.

I was going to send in the computer due to a bent LCD or chassis, then called and told them I'd rather just return it (I really did want to return it). Now they've given me the option of sending me a new unit in exchange for this one.

    Specs in case it matters:
    P9500
    Nvidia 160M
    1x2gb RAM, Dell
    80gb 7200RPM free-fall sensor, Dell
    Base Wireless Card
    Bluetooth 370
    LED screen
    Vista, 32-bit

Again, not sure if that matters, but just incase someone searches in the future.

I have got my M4400 two weeks ago and since beginning was experiencing random lockups/freezes on Windows 7 x64 and also Vista x64/x86. Tried to debug them with windebug by forcing blue screen (you can do that after small registry hack and then pressing right control + scroll lock + scroll lock forces blue screen and memory dump) but the locks were so bad even keyboard driver was stuck. As rest of us I have tried bunch of diagnostic programs (including Dell's own) but got nothing at the end. Finally I reminded myself similar problem I had long time ago with HP laptop. It also was freezing randomly and after some time even refused to boot. And the cause of that was wireless adapter. So, I got service manual from Dell, and have had removed Intel 5300 AGN from my M4400 and no lockups since then. Question to you guys - I do not want to send whole laptop to Dell as I need it for my work. Do you know if it is possible to send only faulty wireless adapter to Dell?

My guess is that you can.
Call them and tell them what you discovered. They will probably just send you a new card. They sell the cards by themselves on the website so I don't see why they wouldn't ship you one.

Good job troubleshooting the problem BTW!
    ;)
    Cheers
