Thank you, kwalls007, for your post that you are happy that you bought a Vostro and not an Inspiron. I haven't heard about anyone with a Vostro wishing they'd purchased an Inspiron - I really want the Vostro!

The one difference I still have to figure out is that one has "7.1 channel stereo sound" and the other has "two channel high definition audio codec and 2 stereo 2 watt internal speakers w/ HD audio 2.0 software." I'm just not really sure of the significance of these different features.

If anyone can help me, I'd greatly appreciate it!

i will be ordering definitely monday. I have $1,150 in hand ready to be spent on the laptop and tax. But i am still not sure what configuration i should get. I can't decide what to do with $50 of my budget. I will get either

    this:
    wxga+ (1440x900)

    or this:
    bluetooth
    intel pro wireless a/g

at first i was sure i was gonna get the high resolution wxga screen but recently i have heard people saying that the higher resolution screens are having graininess issues. What should i get. I will be doing a lot of word processing because i am a college student, i will be doing mid range gaming and movie watching. I'm just not sure if the price is worth it, but honestly i have never used bluetooth in my life and don't know if upgrading to Intel's wireless card will help me at all.

I love my 1440x900 anti-glare...it is my second laptop with it and its great. I would go for bluetooth if I was you because the ability to wirelessly connect a mouse is amazing, also the ability to transfer pics off of phones or music to a phone or a number of other things. I think you'll be fine with the basic Dell Wireless B/G.

Hi! I hope this is OK to post here. I filled out the FAQ a few days ago and got great advice, which is why I've been reading the posts here. :) However, I've built and rebuilt the Vostro 1500 and just can't seem to decide what's right for me. I've pasted my configuration below.

    Vostro 1500
    Intel® Core™ 2 Duo T5470 (1.6GHz, 2MB L2 Cache, 800MHz FSB)
*Not a gamer, and read that the higher one will suck up the battery*
    Genuine Windows® XP Home
    *Need it for VPN compatibility*
15.4 inch Wide Screen XGA LCD Display
*Need the non-glossy for 8 hr workdays looking at the computer*
1GB Shared Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 667MHz, 2 DIMM
*Can and will buy more later*
    120G 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive
    *Is this OK?*
    8X CD/DVD Burner w/ double-layer DVD+R write capability, w/ Roxio Creator
*I know you guys will laugh, but the Roxio Creator comes at no add'l charge...worth it?*
    128MB NVIDIA® GeForce™ 8400M GS
    *Will this be sufficient?*
Dell Exclusive MediaDirect™ Instant Play Software Application
*I read that this isn't needed, but I can't uncheck it*
    Dell Wireless 1390 802.11g Wi-Fi Mini Card
    *Should I upgrade this?*
Verizon Wireless BUILT IN MOBILE BROADBAND
*Now, maybe I should create (or search for) a post for this...I am interested in being able to go online and work wherever I am...anyone use this before? I purchased the card months ago and found out later that I couldn't add it to the work laptop, but since I'm still paying for the monthly fee for it anyway, why not get this for my home laptop and use it?*
    No Webcam Option
    High Definition Audio 2.0
Integrated 10/100 Network Card and Modem
56 WHr 6-cell Lithium Ion Primary Battery
    *I might purchase a 9-cell later*
2 Year Limited Hardware Warranty with Next Business Day On-Site Service
2 Year CompleteCare Accidental Damage Service
    Regular: $1231
    With Dell Discount: $967

Any recommendations? I am willing to pay up to $1200, but after reading the posts here, I want to make sure I don't pay extra for stuff I won't need, but I also want to ensure my laptop will be fast enough to do what I want. (Like I said, I'm not a gamer, but I like to use Photoshop a lot, use spreadsheets and have quite a few windows open at a time).

    Thanks!
