actually i can see grainyness but only with pics that are stretched to the screen size. its hardly noticeable.
    i still have these questions:
    - did anyone else recieve a media direct cd for the inspiron 1520 with thier vostro 1500 (who is in europe, recieving from ireland)
    - should i have installed the intel matrix storage thingy and wat does it do.

    plus one more

    - does the latest vista update cause this problem - highlighting words in any box works but then trying to erase it or type over it doesn't work. or have i messed with a setting.

I am posting to praise Dell's customer satisfaction, if not their quality control.
My first vostro had a noisy capacitor or something in the LCD, and it was making an annoying buzzing sound. They offered either to send the replacement LCD and let me install, or send me a new replacement. I opted for the replacement, and used the prepaid shipping they sent me to send back the original. My replacement comes, and it freezes up every 2 minutes and becomes unresponsive.... So at this point i am rather frustrated. After several exchanges with Dell reps they decide to send me yet another replacement. So they did prepay another shipping label with DHL, and the third one works great!! been using it for 3 weeks.

Sad part is that it took 3 tries to get a working PC

I hope you all have better luck. But you can at least rest assured that Dell will probably make it right if you have problems. Towards the end my issue was elevated and I was getting called regularly to update the status and make sure everything was going smoothly.

Overall I would say that they could definately improve their quality control, but that in the end their support worked out well..

Also for the $650 I paid I got a powerful machine, and with the 9 cell battery it tends to last around 5 hours. Not bad!!

I was just looking on the dell site and was surprised to find the Vostro 1400 9 cell battery for $65. Not bad! I remember it being a $59 option when I configured mine however. I also remember seeing a 9 cell for the Vostro 1400 selling on ebay for over $100. :p Maybe I'll get another 9 cell?

    @ jackanapes

Did they end up giving you anything for all the trouble you went through? Gift card?
