I'm a Vostro 1500 owner and loving every minute of it. Great machine, sturdy, came with nothing installed that I didn't need. Runs Vista perfectly. My specs :)

    Vostro 1500: 2.2Ghz C2D (4Mb/800Fsb),
    4Gb 667Mhz Ram, 320Gb Western Digital HDD,
    Geforce 8600GT 256Mb, Wireless N/Blue Tooth/2MP Web Cam, Vista Home Premium 32bit
All for $850!!! (Including after market HDD and Ram upgrades. Gotta love Dell Outlet Store!)

    G'Day Folks,,

I'm about to buy a DELL VOSTRO 1500. Is there a DELL website where i can key in the SERIAL # to ensure that the parts in the laptop are genuine ??

Or run some kind of a test ?

If you can get the service tag number from the bottom of the laptop, you can call Dell directly and they'll tell you how many times it's been serviced, if it was reported stolen. Who's owned it, although they won't give out personal info like names.

Does anyone have experience with the 17" Premium WXGA+ (1440 x 900) Anti-Glare Display on the current Vostro 1720?

I am very close to buying one but am split between a studio 15 and vostro 1720. The reason for the Vostro is because i can get a more powerful processor P7570 2.26ghz as opposed to P7540 2.13ghz in the studio 15...and Geforce 9600M GS instead of Radeon 5470 for around £25 more.

My main concern is the screen as I do some photography work, talking to dell online - they say the studio has the better screen. To me, glossy doesnt mean better, I just want a reasonable accuracy in colour and contrast.

Please let me know your opinions...very close to buying now! Im in the UK.

One of our employees has a Vostro 1720 that did not come with Bluetooth. Is it possible to add it internally? I have done this before where a system had room for a mini PCI but I am unfamiliar with the Vostro 1720 setup.
    Thank you!

I can compare the 1720 to the Studio as my work has both. They are both nice, but the Studio with the 1920x1080 screen is sooo clear and sooo bright that I prefer it and is the one I chose for my laptop (see sig). BUT, it is glossy...
Now the 1720 has a bigger screen so you may like that, but the brightness, consistency, and clarity of the Studio is very nice. The Studio is much lighter too.
Whichever one you go with, I would still calibrate it with a third party tool to get the most out of it for photography. (I'm sure you know that already! )

Proud owner of a new Vostro 1520!! Seems that I just managed to order it right before Dell removed this model line from their webpage. Only used for a week so far, but seems great. The screen is matte (which I prefer over glossy) and bright. The build is sturdy and looks durable. The largest plus for me is that it still uses the older 15.4" screen, which seems to have been phased out by the wider (and imo less practical for actual work) 15.6" screens. Comes with Windows 7 reinstallation disk too! My only gripe is the *slightly* sticky feel to the touchpad, the mediocre speakers, the slightly warm left side of the wristpad area, and the somewhat flimsy feeling of the keys. All things considered though, the $629 price was a great deal for a new graduate (read *poor*) like myself.

Anyone got Audio over HDMI working on a Vostro 3000 series laptop?

I have a bunch of “NVIDIA High Definition Audio” devices in my device manager – but no way to access them!

    Specs: Vostro 3500/GeForce 310m
