The display is one assembly. You can not remove the glass and replace it with a bezel.

What is the difference between the 'edge to edge' RGB screen and the non E to E RGB? Is the non edge to edge matte? Or some other more reflective surface but not 'glass'. And does the glass mean you can use Windex on it? I currently am using a machine with a 'tru brite' or similiarly tagged glossy surfaced screen and can't really tell whether it's glass or some hard plastic. And if plastic, just how hard is it? Are they all pretty much the same industry wide or does Dell have it's own tru life or whatever they call it system? The second group of questions are just to satisify curiousity but the first about the RGB I'd appreciate any knowledge you can spare.

gulfstream, my understanding is that the non E to E is matte, and that the E to E is the same exactly display with a glass coating of some kind. I haven't bit the bullet yet on a new laptop though, so I don't have an M6400 in front of me to verify this.

I do own a Covet (E-E with glass) --- The above statements are accurate. The 100% Adobe RGB LCD is exactly the same matt screen, just the bezel is replaced with E-E glass.

This thread seems to be slowing quite a bit.. are the problems with the dell pretty much resolved now? Or has everyone just sent them back? ;)

    Regards,

Hey, you could be like me. :)

Work approves personal laptop purchase for reimbursement.
I buy an HDX 18t (18.4" Screen, Mmmm)
    I submit the costs
I am informed it needs to be XP Pro and a Dell (Ugh)
    I get a Covet (Hey, I'm easy!)
I submit the cost and wait for reimbursement
    I wait
    I wait
    I wait (Almost a month)
I go into work today and there is a BRAND NEW Covet sitting on my desk still sealed in the box
I scratch my head and head to purchasing
I show them the resubmitted reimbursement paperwork
    They confirm Dell is authorized
    They confirm XP is authorized
Apparently instead of authorizing a reimbursement, they order me a a Covet (8gb, 64SSD, 320gb 2nd, XP/Vista) versus my custom one in the sig
So now I have to sell my CURRENT Covet since I have a work ordered and issued Covet....

Still kinda neat to see two Covets sitting side by side, though. :)

I mean, I could keep it, but it makes no sense to have two.

Since you're in Jersey, my delivery address is in Jersey and the taxes have been paid once already, what's the exact config. and how much do you want? Yours might be overbuilt for my needs but can't be sure till I ask.

And another detail I've been meaning to ask. While the FX 2700m is sufficient for my work needs is there any great value getting the FX 3600 for mostly simulator flying and maybe a good first person shooter? And are there any driver adjustments or changes to make either of these cards perform more like the gaming cards they aren't?

    The basics:

    Covet (E2E, orange)
    QX9300 Quad Core
    Nvidia Quadro 3700 GPU
    160gb Seagate 7200.3 Momentus
    4gb DDR3-1066
Vista Ultimate w/ XP Pro downgrade
    Office 2007 Small Business Edition
    5300AGN

I have a pending sale atm, but if it falls through I'll let you know and provide the service tag via PM so you can take a gander at all it has to offer without having to list all the little details.

My new covet has a 64gb SSD along with a 320gb secondary and 8gb of RAM (which I told work made no sense since they officially enforce XP Pro 32-bit, but ah well).

Good thing is it was easy to clone my original HD and restore to the new one, so no hiccups.

The E2E glass plate is very close to the matte screen, therefore the typical diffusion of a matte screen is reduced by a great amount so you get a sharper picture with a better contrast.
