What is the best price people are getting for a configuration with the LED screen and QX9300 processor? When I called up Dell, the salesperson is only willing to offer me a 15% discount including EPP and claimed that there is no such thing as a 30% discount on Precisions which I call bull. HP, on the other hand, is willing to offer 30% discount for a similar configuration on the 8730w (the HP's pre-discount price is $200 more than the Dell), making the offer very tempting.

hey happy new year to everyone. Just got back from my holiday a couple of days ago and well since then i was able to get in touch with a Dell rep to discuss the swap which i kept on hold due to my december plans.

Recap: The high pitch sound still seems to be a big problem even after the new solutions that have been posted in this thread.
At least am glad am not the only one that experienced the problem.

What was slightly embarassing but funny was a meeting i had with a company's system analyst during my vacation. He interrupted me during my presentation to find out where the noise(from my laptop) was coming from. I had to brush it off with humor by telling him it was a special feature in my laptop that automatically comes on when my client seems to be making the right decisions but the joke took a couple of seconds to sink-in. He seemed very interested in the laptop after highlighting some of its features but i decided throw a wrench at the image that was conjuring up in his mind by showing him the adapter and he bursted out with laughter.

Well my swap has been processed and it will be with me before the 26th of january. It has a slightly different config mainly with the network card as i was initially given the Dell Wireless 1397 802.11g Mini-Card but wanted a draft N card. so that was rectified.

I tired pushing for the RGB LED but it breaks their swap policy...etc.

I wanted to ask, what do you use to carry the laptop (notebook bag/case)?
I have tried the targus atmosphere and although it is a very good bag, carrying it in the hand for an hour+ takes a serious toil on the shoulder muscles.
I have decided to get a backpack instead. Any recommendations?

I look forward to impressions with the new windows 7 beta and HOPE to see silver-zinc batteries for the M6400 this year.

Keyboard is fine. "Sharpness"? If you are referring to the screen, I have the E2E RGB LED, and it is excellent. Best screen I have seen on a laptop so far.

Just a heads up, Dell just updated the Intel Matrix Storage program and driver. I'm installing them now and I'll report if I have any problems.

Here's what it says about them:

    - Changes made to reduce power consumption improving battery performance.
    - Corrects random issues related to not being able read/write to and from CD/DVD optical drives.

The drivers on Dell's site is newer than the one's on Intel's, at least for now.

    Concerning the keyboard:
I find this to be fine. I have no problems.

    Concerning a bag:
I purchased one of these Targus 17” CityGear Laptop Backpack
I was carrying a backback with my previous 15" laptop. I like this one, plenty of room. I do not care for the standard laptop bags, I have 6 blocks to walk between the garage and the office.

I use a McKlein bag - It is a backpack - leather - and comes with removable wheels. It holds tons of stuff - including my Covet - which is inside a Belkin neoprene sleeve. I've been using it for 3 years - day in and day out -- (I travel for work) and it still looks new.

ebags.com has the best prices I've seen on it.

Sorry by sharpness I'm talking about the palm rest. Does it cut into your hand when typing at all?

    Regards,

I don't know how it could. My wrists sit on the black part of the wrist rest, not the corners. You'd have to have Ann Coulter's hands to set your wrists on the silver part.
