Thanks a lot, Kdviner70. Appreciate it.

Is that the distance from the bottom of the screen or from the surface the laptop was sitting on?

maybe try asking them to replace the webcam. had a skype call with a friend who has the 1220 recently and i dint notice anything particularly bad about the image. looks like your average webcam image.

does anyone else here notice an issue with very poor webcam image quality?

Robgoren - The measurement was from the surface that it was sitting on. If you want another measurement. Let me know.

I never said it has "very poor webcam image quality", it is just noticeably inferior to webcams on older and less expensive laptops.

It is not as sharp and vivid as my two year old HP laptop. In fact, it was two of my contacts on Skype who pointed it out to me, they asked: are you using an different computer? how come the image is not as sharp as before? and image looks washed out!

So we did some experiment switching between the Vostro 1220, HP DV2500, and an Asus 1000he in the same room, with same lighting, on the same network for Skype calls. Both HP and Asus earned good remarks from my contacts, they commented that the images are sharp, clear with vibrant colors.

Remarks for Vostro 1220 is: the video is still acceptable, however, image looked a little blurry, the colors are washed out.

In your case, you need to see some comparisons. Not just V1220.

    A tripod and a good camera as a webcam on a ultra-portable? What a brilliant idea! :D

I have asked them to replace the laptop, for other reasons, the webcams are the same, no difference. It was not an individual case.
